Today we are New Town bound!
On New Town road you’ll find the historic New Town Post and Telegraph building, built in 1891. This unique Heritage listed property houses businesses including Assemblage Boutique Art Bed & Breakfast, Assemblage Curated – gifts and homewares, Assemblage Art, Design and Self-discovery Workshops and Dispatch Café.
Conveniently located on New Town road, Dispatch has been refuelling locals for over seven years. On entering Dispatch, you are immediately met with a space that is light, bright, and welcoming, with colourful artworks and greenery adding to the contemporary look and feel of the space.
“The reason I wanted to buy a coffee shop was because I love the environment, atmosphere and sense of community a coffee shop brings” said owner Anan.
Anan bought the business four months ago and is one of the newest members of the Dispatch team.
“The barista, Ked, has been here for over 5 years and is also the talented artist responsible for the colourful portraits in the main dining area.”
Since taking over the business, Anan has been working closely with the chef, Ujjwal (who is originally from Nepal) to make some exciting new changes to the menu.
“I’ve made a number of small changes to the menu, but I’ve made sure to keep the old favourites like the morning burger and the smashed avo.”
Anan majored in accounting in Brisbane before moving into hospitality and has 6 years’ work experience in restaurants both in Brisbane and Hobart.
“My favourite thing about running a café is the relaxed environment.
“Our main goal is to provide warm hospitality…a place where customers can relax, work and catch up with friends and family.”
Dispatch features a private dining room complete with high ceilings with an impressive chandelier – perfect for your next birthday brunch with friends and family.
Although new to the café scene, Anan is passionate about coffee culture and providing the best possible experience for customers.
“I’m Chinese and I come from a completely different culture. Coffee culture is so integral to the Australian way of life, and I wanted the opportunity to learn more about local culture. In Australia, coffee brings people together and I saw it as an opportunity to have greater communication with a variety of people and involve myself in the local community.”
One of the best things about the café is the location. Tucked off New Town Road, Dispatch sits between North Hobart and Moonah and only a short 5-minute drive to the Hobart CBD.
“We also have a gorgeous outdoor courtyard space for people to enjoy sunny Hobart days – AND it’s dog friendly!”
One of their most popular items is home-made sausage rolls with flaky pastry and delicious, hearty filling with Dispatch’s own tomato relish – just like your nanna used to make.
Dispatch Café also have a convenient take away window, ‘Dispatch & GO’, – so you can get your brekky and caffeine fix, fast.
And what’s next for Dispatch?
“We’d love to explore the opportunity of opening at night… watch this space!”
Dispatch’s opening hours are 7 am to 2 pm Monday to Saturday and 7 am to 1 pm Sunday.
