We’re Springing into September Hobart and boy are we keen for sunshine. 

There is so much happening around our fair city this month so we’ve made a list of September happenings so you don’t have to! Grab a mate and pick a date cause it ain’t time to hibernate – we’re springing into spring

We’re going on a beer hunt and/or a cocktail crawl!

Beer lovers unite! Make the most of this opportunity to explore Hobart’s top local breweries and sample some unique brews. With eight beer tastings and some tasty food vouchers included (bc you can’t beer crawl on an empty stomach!), it’s guaranteed to be a great time. Rumour has it there are only a few tickets left so don’t hesitate to snag tickets!

Cocktail lovers – we haven’t forgotten about you! The Urban Cocktail Trail is on 21 September. This self-guided Cocktail Trail will take you through a bunch of venues in Salamanca where you will have the opportunity to sample some unique (and delicious) signature cocktails.

Altar have had a glow up and are reopening as Altar Bar.  To celebrate, they are hosting a free launch party and you’re all invited! They’ll be slinging $6.66 beers and putting on a show, featuring a bunch of killer acts and launching their new (cheap) menu.  Their launch party is happening on Friday 20 September. Florals for spring? Groundbreaking!

Averill Lawler will be hosting a Botanical Painting Workshop at Shambles Brewery. Averill will provide you will all the guidance you need to capture the essence of real flowers and create a beautiful, unique piece of art. What better way to celebrate the joys of spring? Don’t stress if you ain’t artistic – this class is more about having fun and getting creative.

It simply wouldn’t be spring without the City of Hobart Floral Shows! These free community events run by the Hobart Horticultural Society are a bloomin’ great way to immerse yourself in the captivating beauty of flowers this Spring! With upcoming shows showcasing daffodils, camellias and orchids, it’s guaranteed to be colourful and vibrant celebration of spring florals, set in the glorious Town Hall Ballroom.

Sink your teeth into some theatre

If theatre is your jam then that is good because there is a bunch of great stuff happening this month. Bad Company Theatre are presenting Nosferatu (a retelling of a classic vampire story from 1922 – set in TASMANIA!), Protea Improv have a bunch of gigs coming up (it’s improvised theatre so you’re guaranteed to see something unique), you can catch Grug live on stage (need we say more..? It’s GRUG!!) or check out Prada Clutch’s all-drag revue at the Theatre Royal – the list goes on!  

Run for fun at Knockoffs Run Club! 

What better way to feel springy this season? Whether you’re a regular runner or have virtually never broken into a jog, Knockoffs Run Club provides a supportive and encouraging environment for you to create social connections and get those endorphins flowing. Their flagship run is the weekly 6 pm Thursday run, with eight different routes that rotate weekly. Each course starts and finishes at Room for a Pony – so you can treat yourself to a well-earned post-run knockoff!

Markets galore!

Grinners are kicking off their first monthly market on the 15 September. Every month there will be select stall holders upstairs offering everything under $50, and there will also be freebies table! The fire will be cranking, the margs will be flowing & the tunes will be pumping.  

The next Pre-Loved market is happening on Saturday 7 September at St James Hall. The Pre-Loved Market is an indoor, curated, preloved, vintage, retro and local makers’ market. The team behind Pre-Loved are passionate about inspiring people to consider slow fashion – giving Hobartians a place to unleash their sustainability sass!  

 
The Twilight Market will be down at the Brooke Street Pier on Friday 13 September and Friday 27 September from 4.30 – 9 pm.  This family and dog-friendly market, showcases the best of Tasmanian eats, drinks, design, and music in a beautiful setting. The perfect end to the working week!

It’s time to Level Up Hobart! The Level Up Tasmania Video Game Showcase is a free weekend of events celebrating Tasmanian-made video games and game developers. Head down to PW1 to play some of the 30 games on display, including unreleased gems, or chat to the developers about their games. Jump on the Screen Tas website to find out more about what’s planned including:  

  • Level Up After Dark – a professional E-Sports competition hosted by Down Tilt on Friday afternoon. 
  • The team from Hit 100.9 will be broadcasting live from the event with giveaways on Saturday morning. 
  • The AFL Grand Final will be screened on the big screen on the PW1 forecourt Saturday afternoon.
