Tucked just behind Collins Street, around the corner from Fullers, next to Little Lotus Café, and a short stroll from Centrepoint, this wine-and-book nook is a love letter to small producers, good reads, and great taste.
As winter rolls in, there’s nothing better than curling up fireside (if you’re lucky enough to have one), with a glass of something delicious in one hand and a snack – or maybe a book in the other.
Walking in feels like visiting that one friend who somehow has the best wine collection and an enviable bookshelf. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and made for mooching about.

Bottles
At its core, Five Leaves Left is all about thoughtful curation. Everything on the shelves whether it’s a bottle or a book earns its place. The selection of wine leans into minimal intervention, natural and small-batch producers. The smaller, the better. As a small business themselves, they get it, and they’re all about supporting their community of fellow independents.
But it’s not just natty Tassie drops. You’ll also find a niche selection of off-island and international wines for when you’re feeling a little worldly. With a constant rotation of stock there’s always something new to find.
Five Leaves Left is set to release their own wine later this year and we can’t wait to see how it sips!

Books
The book selection hits that sweet spot: not too overwhelming, but far from slim pickings. Expect a mix of local authors, small publishing houses, underrated gems, Australian voices, and a healthy dose of used books with stories of their own. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find something you didn’t know you were looking for.
Need a recommendation? Just ask. The team knows their stuff and they’re more than happy to help whether it’s pairing a bottle with your dinner, your mood, or even your next read. Yes, they’ll match your wine to a book.

Bit of Mischief
Every Saturday from 2pm, they crack open something special for tastings because, as they say, they simply can’t drink alone. Local winemakers often swing by for pop-up tastings too, so keep an eye on their socials to see what’s pouring.
Oh there’s also a Lotto. Not official, but very fun. For just $5 a ticket, you’re in the running to win a mystery bottle—anything from a bougee vintage to a big ol’ party-starter. Drawn when the tickets sell out, it’s a weekly ritual worth getting in on.

Best of all, they’re open late, making it the perfect pit stop before a BYO dinner in the city. Whether you’re after a local favourite or something a little more left-of-centre, the shelves here are stacked with everything from Tassie’s finest to rare finds from far-flung vineyards.
Five Leaves Left is the kind of place that makes Hobart feel like home. Be sure to check them out next time you’re in town.
