As sister to the popular burger van Shred Burgers and Shimmy Shakes, Billy’s Burgers and Bar on Elizabeth Street Pier (next to Fish Frenzy), is sure to be a Hobart favourite.
We had to ask owner Leo, why the name ‘Billy’s Burgers’ since his name is not Billy.
“As it turns out, I got the name Billy as a nickname back when I was a teenager working at the wharf. It became a bit of an ongoing joke and it sort of stuck,” says Billy.
“I love a Classic beef burger or a Billy’s with a side of caramelised onion,” says Billy
What can you expect from the newest addition to the wharf?
A menu which offers American style burgers with a local twist. The team have kept the favourites from Shred Burgers and added in some new items. You can find the famous pulled pork burger (with hoisin marinade, slaw, aioli and apple sauce), through to a selection of shakes and sides such as loaded fries or boneless Buffalo wings. Catering for those who are gluten free, vegan or vegetarian, they also have a generous kids menu (with fitting names for these burgers).
“I have kids, so I know how hard it is to find something that the kids like, we have tried to cater for that as much as possible,” said Leo.
The Jalapeno Monterey Jack Poppers have been a real crowd favourite too.
Service is a paramount and as Leo said, “we want to deliver above expectations”. The staff are well trained and we focus on sourcing fresh local produce wherever possible.
Billy’s Burgers has also brought in live music every Friday too. “We are so happy to be able to not only provide live music finally in Hobart but also help out the musicians who have been so heavily impacted via Covid”.
They are fully licensed, with a focus on Tasmanian beers on tap, cocktails and other spirits.
If you are after a good burger, make your way down to the wharf and enjoy.
