A striking eatery has just opened up in the old Teddy Bear Shop on Collins Street.
Sunbear, named as a homage to the old historic tenant of the building, is owned by the delightful Brooke. Hailing from Brisbane, she has braved the Hobart winter and moved south to open up the boutique coffee shop.
On offer are small plates, treats and of course first-class coffee thanks to Allpress Espresso. Many of the baked goods on display are made by Brooke’s own Mum. ‘Mum comes in before opening and together we bake treats for the store’ says Brooke.
Brooke tells us that the Chai Cake has been a real favourite of customers. They have been through 5 cakes in the week – plus it is vegan! They also offer Pigeon Whole Bakers staples such as bagels and bread. ‘We plan on having an evolving menu. Expect it to be different most days’.
This space is simple but warm and inviting (important in a Hobart winter). ‘I want people to feel like they have walked into my home’.
Most of what you see in the store is antique and second-hand. Brooke has collected plates, cups, the display cabinets and even the tables and chairs from around Hobart – it is quite the collection.
Come and welcome Brooke and her team at 145 Collins Street, Hobart.
