This is the word to describe Sisterhood Café.
This stylish café located on King Street in Sandy Bay certainly has had its run of bad luck. But after battling through a severe flood that saw them close for 11 months and then a pandemic, this café is officially re-opening and the crew are biting at the peach to welcome you back. If you didn’t get a chance to visit before the closure, we recommend that you put this on your next brunch location list.
Yasmin is the owner of this delightful café and we were impressed by her skills at multi-tasking – this girl has skills.
“I really wanted to create somewhere where I would personally like to eat. I wanted to create a place that you didn’t have to wait for an hour for a table, that had amazing food and a great vibe,’ says Yasmin
Sisterhood came about after Yasmin discovered the ‘for lease’ sign on the property whilst walking her dogs in 2018. She tells us that they signed the lease that same day!
The food here is incredibly well thought-out with a modern Australian menu designed to not alienate anyone. “There is a big emphasis on ensuring Sisterhood caters for everyone, we didn’t want dietary requirements to be an afterthought, but rather built into the menu. Our chef consulted with us for six months prior to opening,” says Yasmin.
“We wanted to ensure this place was for everyone from grandmothers, to parents with prams, to girls groups having a Sunday brunch. As a result, we put a lot of effort into ensuring the furniture, music and menu all allowed for this.”
The Hello team ordered the Salmon Breakfast Bowl, which, as the name suggests, includes smoked salmon and comes with sauerkraut, pickled carrot, avocado, wilted kale salad and a poached egg. One of their most popular options and we can see why!
A choc-chip cookie filled with cream cheese may have also come home with us for afternoon tea.
An absolute Hello Hobart favourite is Sisterhood’s custom Zimmah coffee blend. Works perfectly as a flat white or a long black.
Dog lovers, this place is also for you! Not only is there a separate doggy entrance, you’ll also find doggy biscuits and puppycinos on the menu.
Sisterhood, the name, was the first thing that was developed after securing the location. The name represents a sense of community and indicates the café’s inclusivity. The logo of the peach represents the motto of Sisterhood that everything is ‘just peachy’ and we simply adore it.
