A wonderful store filled to the brim with beautiful homewares, plants, baby & children gifts and clothing is Verde in West Hobart.

We sat down with the lovely owner Karen, who juggles her time as a small business owner, garden designer and agricultural scientist.

This emporium has an eclectic product range, with a true emphasis on being sustainable and retailing responsibly. They are stockists of Tasmanian made products such as Epitome Hats and also source items from across the globe to bring something delightful to your home.

Verde endeavours to support many local small businesses within their own business. Much loved products include a great array of planter pots, indoor plants and candles.

“We have our own range of candles using soy because it is much more sustainable and also burns better,” says Karen.

Their ever-popular DIY gin kits are recently back in stock. These kits were delayed because of the pandemic, but the team have rejigged and rethought some items to create a unique kit. Each kit includes recycled bottles.

The team offer online shopping and keeping in theme with the focus on sustainability, reuse all boxes, bubble wrap and packaging to then ship items to customers.

Karen is incredibly passionate about her community and it shines through when she talks of her customers.

“Throughout COVID, our neighbourhood really got behind us. We are so thrilled to be part of such a great community.”

Verde means ‘green’ in many languages.. For Karen, the name fit for a number of reasons but namely because it not only signifies they sell plants but also the strong philosophy behind the brand.

“We really want people to buy once, buy well”.
