Battery Point Distillery was born from a passion for Tasmania and the respected traditions of whisky distilling.
Housed in the heritage listed Lenna of Hobart, in Hobart’s historic Battery Point, where winding lanes of 19th century cottages rise from the harbour, a small stone building contains a treasure trove of small batch, hand-made whiskies slowly ageing in a collection of carefully sourced casks. Located between Princes Park and Runnymede Street.
We offer interactive tours and tastings of our boutique gin and single malt whisky distillery from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday. For $30 per person, the tour includes principles of boutique distilling, first-hand experience in how to make our small batch House of Lenna Gin and our Battery Point Distillery Single Malt Whisky, the history of our distillery and the magnificent building we are housed in, and of course tastings of our current release products.
Our House of Lenna Blend No. 1 Dry Gin has been created by both Jack and Lyn Lark. From day one we wanted to create a gin that could be easily enjoyed on its own, as well as in a cocktail or martini. A complex, but not complicated, gin that has a rich and smooth mouth feel with a long and gentle finish – much like a good whisky. As a result, House of Lenna gin is juniper driven with an upfront layer of herbaceous fresh qualities. It’s backed up by a usual gin botanical such as lemon, orange, coriander, orris root, and then freshened up with a touch of tonka and vanilla beans. We then finish with a sprinkle of Tasmanian sea salt, which rounds and lengthens out the palate.
Whisky runs proudly in the blood of our founding distiller Jack Lark. Our creative and visionary use of cask and barrel influence drives extraordinary character into all Battery Point whiskies. Painstakingly double-distilled by our Head Distiller Luke Lawrence in tiny quantities from 100% Tasmanian malt mash and pure Tasmanian water, each whisky is completely unique from batch to batch.
Vintage Spanish sherry, tawny and port casks – as well as newer bourbon casks – all play their part in Battery Point Distillery’s vision. Variations and nuances of single, double or triple cask ageing come to life, allowing whisky lovers to experience exceptional contemporary expressions of Tasmania.
