If your weekend plans don’t involve your shack, head to the farmers markets this Sunday. Always a good time, always fresh faces, familiar faces and a whole lot of delicious local produce.
We consulted the maestros of Farm Gate Market, ready to fill your basket with local Easter treats – baked and lovingly grown right here in Tasmania. Prepping for an Easter Sunday lunch? Here’s your go-to market shopping list!
🥕 First in the basket, sides
• Sparrowfoot Farm will have their spectacular rainbow carrots to brighten up your roast or Sunday salad.
• Rod from Stirling Produce – will be bringing a Ute tray load of his very finest pumpkins – over 10 varieties to choose from!
• Rock Hill Estate – a spud-lover’s dream we’re talking Dutch Creams, Carlingford, Pink Eyes, Kennebec, King Edwards, and Up-To-Date potatoes, covering any potato dish, from baked to mashed, boiled or smashed!

🥩 Next in the basket, the main event.

Pork / Beef
Planning a Sunday roast? Head to Oldway Farm for some of their beautiful pork or beef cuts.
(Hill Street Grocers shared a handy tip sheet for everyone cooking up a roast this Easter, thanks legends!)
🍷 Want to pair it?
Five Leaves Left on Victoria Street, recommends pairing roast pork with Vini Fusili’s ‘Cosimo’ Pinot Noir from the Huon Valley.
Tasting notes: slight acid up front blended seamlessly into a rounded juicy light tannin finish.
(Organic, Unfined, Unfiltered, Wild Fermentation with Zero Additions.)
Lamb
For lamb, head to Braised for their locally raised lamb, available in fresh cuts and ready-to-go dishes.
🍷 Want to pair it?
Try Crusher’s ‘Crime in the City’ Syrah/Merlot from Granite Belt, QLD.
Tasting notes: Big and juicy, Dark fruits. Nice hit of tannin but not overwhelming. Can be chilled too.
(Carbonic Maceration, Unfined, Unfiltered.)
Sirrocco South’s Torta Pasqualina
If you’re lucky, basket one of their Iiconic tortas made from puff pastry shell filled with ricotta, Parmesan, cream, eggs and silver beet – serve it hot or cold!
🍷 Want to pair it?
Pair with Gismondi ‘Fontana’ Falanghina from Campania, Italy.
Tasting notes: Zesty, slightly saline, structured, complex but fun.
(Biodynamic, Wild Fermentation, Unfined, Unfiltered with Zero Additions.)
For wine mentioned, head to Five Leaves Left – they’re closed Easter Sunday – so make sure you drop on in Saturday!
