There is a new hum on Barrack Street, and it smells like espresso, slow-cooked tomatoes, and something sweet just out of the oven. Novellino has quietly opened its doors in one of Hobart’s most beautiful heritage buildings. Novellino comes from novello, meaning new or young – a nod to freshness, to new beginnings, and we’re so happy to welcome its arrival.
Set inside a corner block dating back to 1839, the space is a blend of old-world charm and modern elegance. Picture original timber floorboards, art deco lighting, upcycled furniture, and local art lining the walls. Timeless and tasteful.

Novellino isn’t just about good looks. It’s all about showcasing Tasmanian produce through Italian tradition, with a distinct Sicilian twist. On the menu, you’ll find handmade pasta, flavours inspired by Sicily’s sun-drenched coastline, and always a delicious dessert. For takeaway, think house-made focaccias paired with seasonal salads.
Oh and for sweets? House-made Italian cakes and pastries – paired with an espresso at the bar. Ahh say less~

The owners of Novellino have poured their years of industry experience and knowledge into every detail of bringing this space to life. (The restrooms are a must see). This is the kind of place where your morning coffee can easily turn into lunch. It is elegant without being fussy and welcoming without trying too hard.

Whether you are popping in for a quick biscotti and espresso or settling in for a long lunch with friends by the fireplace, Novellino is the kind of place that makes you feel right at home!
