“You’ve heard the rumours. Scientists, doctors, engineers are slipping across the forbidden river. They’ve built a Laboratory. To resurrect the Filthy Ones.”

In the not-too-distant future, animals have been eradicated. The city is in ruins and the river is rising. But Queenie is secretly working on a plan to bring the animals back—provided she can thwart the bureaucrat Shelley and her spy, Gretel. And avoid the mandatory inoculations that cause everyone to lose their memories.

Written by Australian playwright Kit Lazaroo, Letters from Animals is a play about the voices that call to us and demand to be heard; a dark comedy that asks how much of ourselves—our language, our songs, our dreams—is held together by the animals we live alongside.

Performed by UTAS graduating students in Theatre and Performance, Ruby Goward, Abbey Udovičić, Joshua Murray, Matthew Nelan, Lucia Poljansek and Jorja Williams, with set and costume design by UTAS graduating Design student Lucienne Soulliere, and sound designed by UTAS graduating Music students Sebastian Allen and Sam Collins. Directed by Lecturer in Theatre and Performance, Alex Tálamo.
