Macquarie Soul is an adorable little café nestled on Macquarie Street lined with gorgeous lavender plants. This space may be small, but the offerings are full of flavour and will leave you wanting more. Owners Lauren and Scott are ‘corporate escapees’ who have ventured down the foodie and coffee path.

This cafe has only been open for a few weeks and is already getting great community support. Opening a business is no easy task but they sure have done a stellar job. Lauren is the queen of baking and cooking all the yummy goodies and Scott is the king of the coffee machine!

Both having had careers in corporate sales, they recently relocated to Hobart. Lauren decided to leave her Melbourne job in January and then unfortunately Scott was made redundant the day after. So Tassie born and bred Lauren and husband Scott decided to make a big change and move to Tassie.

This is a true family business with daughter Hope helping out too. We were told she is an excellent taste tester and strongly recommends the dinosaur decorated vanilla biscuits! The local extended family are also keen official taste testers, so if it gets past the family, you know it’s good!

So let’s talk food!

“Macquarie Soul is a breakfast and lunch offering tailored to takeaway. We are really passionate about supporting other local Tassie businesses like us by using their produce wherever possible,” says Lauren

For breakfast think breakfast wrap (scrambled eggs, Cygnet bacon, King Island cheddar, relish and spinach), or a trio of seasonal fruit with Westhaven yoghurt and house-made granola. For lunch there is heaps to choose from including Reuben on rye, chicken burger and a fresh daily salad. You will find best sellers such as Lauren’s carrot cake and lemon slice and equally yummy treats such as kiss biscuits, caramel slice and a gluten free muesli slice.

So the next time you’re on the quest for a wholesome and tasty breakfast or lunch, or a quality brew of coffee, come and say hi to this family team. While you’re there, don’t forget to treat yourself to one of Lauren’s baked sweets too.

If you would rather sit in there is also a small indoor and outdoor seating area.
