Meet Bec and Ness, the duo behind MiLK MONEY – Hobart’s first rent-a-rack studio. Their mission? To keep fashion sustainable by giving wardrobes a second life and earning sellers some ‘milk money’ in the process.

Tucked between The Finders vintage clothing co-op and Queens Pastry in Harrington Street, it’s no surprise that Milk Money is already a busy preloved fashion destination.

“With so many great secondhand and vintage stores nearby, we believe that Milk Money will be a great addition to our little Midtown district,” says Bec. “Our racks are restocked daily, and feature local and international brands, staple basic pieces and great accessories.”

So how does it work? Sellers rent a clothing rack for 4 weeks via the Milk Money website. Racks hold 40 items and 5 accessories at a time. Pieces are dropped off at the store, and Milk Money takes care of the sales. Sellers earn the profits (minus rack hire fee and a small commission). They have different options available, including a full-service setup, where items are dropped off, and the staff do everything else to prepare them for sale.

As items sell, they are replaced with new inventory. For sellers, it’s like having a rack in your own clothing store, and for shoppers, there is always fresh stock rotating through, and great new pieces to find!

Milk Money makes it easy to clear space, earn cash, and keep fashion circular.

Bec was one of the co-founders of neighbouring store Finders Vintage, “We were turning people away at Finders, so this is a great place for those pieces that aren’t vintage but still deserve a second life.”

Bec and Ness have extended their passion for sustainability and a local circular economy into all aspects of Milk Money. Almost everything in the store tells a story of reuse. The counter is wrapped in swimming pool tiles rescued from the Tip Shop. All of the clothes racks are second-hand, the lamps and lights were sourced on Marketplace, and a groovy 1980s Ikea shelving unit is a feature piece, sourced from a secondhand fair – these ladies know how to thrift!

Milk Money caters to all genders and bodies, and this preloved fashion movement is attracting everyone – from early teens to those in their seventies and beyond. Bec and Ness share a passion for reducing landfill and making fashion accessible, proving that style doesn’t have to cost the earth.

Add Milk Money to your list of thrift shops to hit this weekend!
